The Argold 2 West occurrence is located on a northwest-southeast–trending ridge, north of McDame Creek and approximately 3.5 kilometres northwest of Allan Lake.

The area is underlain by Upper Paleozoic Slide Mountain Complex greenstones (altered basalt).

Locally, a volcanic(?) hosts quartz veins, up to 2.0 metres wide, with minor malachite. Chlorite, carbonate and epidote alteration minerals are also reported.

In 1984, a grab sample (P492) of a vein that contained minor malachite assayed 3.3 grams per tonne gold, whereas a chip sample (P496), taken from a southwest-trending ridge approximately 650 metres south-southwest of the previous sample, assayed 0.9 per tonne gold over 1.0 metre (Assessment Report 13098).

Also at this time, placer gold was identified at an elevation of approximately 1300 metres in the small creek draining south into Snowy Creek near its junction with McDame Creek, directly south of the occurrence. A sample (E4612C) from a quartz vein in the area of the placer gold occurrence assayed 0.3 gram per tonne gold (Assessment Report 12499).

Work History

The area has been explored in conjunction with the nearby Snowy Creek-Rich Vein (MINFILE 104P 014) occurrence and a complete exploration history can be found there.
